Our BIG domes feature using sandwich construction with a polyurethane core for rigidity, strength,
and insulation. We have molds for 16 and 20 foot domes but can build your dome almost any size and
to any purpose. How about a 20 foot planetarium with clam shell modular construction or a bandstand
shell (click here to see more about the Astro Stand). And don't forget the
elongated option.
All our clam shell designs minimize cost of ownership by reducing complexity and allow full opening
to enjoy the night sky or achieve immediate thermal equilibrium.
Required options are either the motor control or hand winch. Remote control motor drives give you
push button opening or remote control. These motor controls
feature RS-232 interface so you can view remotely from home or office. The clam shell design with the
latest weather seal technology offers the best protection from the elements. Your equipment
may be further secured by padlocking the shells and with the natural locking of the
motor drives.
Big Domes are generally mounted on top of a structure and ingress/egress is from below. People are installing
our domes on top of almost any kind of building from Play houses to silos. But we can also provide
a 4 foot, 6 foot or 8 foot base with door opening and intermediate floor with pier cutout. (See
Elongated Domes for a picture).
Most domes are ordered with a white gel coat exterior to achieve the best UV protection but domes
are frequently ordered in a variety of colors. Black is the standard interior color.
