Ideal for schools and astronomy groups, the 12 foot diameter domes are large enough for several
astronomers or more than one telescope. Of course it is perfect when you just need more room for
your stuff! When you plan to do all your work inside the dome, there is ample room to place
a computer, desk, tool boxes and other equipment.
All our clam shell designs minimize cost of ownership by reducing complexity and allow full opening
to enjoy the night sky or achieve immediate thermal equilibrium.
Remote control motor drives give you push button opening or remote control. These motor controls
feature RS-232 interface so you can view remotely from home or office. A hand winch is also available.
The clam shell design with the
latest weather seal technology offers the best protection from the elements. Your equipment
may be further secured by padlocking the shells and with the natural locking of the
motor drives.
Ingress and egress is over the side for from below when mounted on top of a structure. Boat stairs,
a small step, or custom made stairs may be used for ground or near ground installations but people are installing
these domes on top of almost any kind of building from Play houses to silos. For these installations
the dome is easily accessed from below.
In either case the installation is a snap. Just bolt the lower flange of the dome to a concrete pad
or a structure that is isolated from your telescope pier. Our 12 foot diameter clamshell
observatories are shipped on one skid and require approximately 6 man-hours to assemble.
These astronomical domes weigh only 550 lb. and the shipping weight is approximately 1000 lb.
in a crate that is 7' high x 7' wide x 14' long. All parts are labeled and assembly instructions are included.
Most domes are ordered with a white gel coat exterior to achieve the best UV protection but domes
are frequently ordered in a variety of colors. Black is the standard interior color.
